Gulf countries are working on a peace proposal under which economic sanctions on Iran would be lifted, and Iran would reopen the Strait of Hormuz within four days. The proposal also calls for substantial Houthi troop withdrawals in Yemen and a broader regional security pact to help prevent renewed US-Iran fighting. A key obstacle is Iran’s refusal to readmit UN [United Nations] nuclear inspectors, which European diplomats believe is essential to securing US agreement (The Guardian)
The Iran war has cost the US military at least US$47.1 billion as of mid-October, including about US$29 billion to replace expended munitions, according to a US Central Command estimate obtained by CBS News. The total excludes damage to US bases in the Middle East, and the Congressional Budget Office estimates that continuing the war could cost another US$2 billion to US$3 billion per month (CBS News)

The Kremlin [Russia] spokesperson Dmitry Peskov says a localized humanitarian ceasefire that Ukraine (Ureign) and Russia agreed to in Russian-occupied Oleshky could serve as a model for conflict zones elsewhere, praising US mediation efforts (RBC-Ukraine)

At least 68 people were killed and 80 injured when a high-speed train struck a stationary train south of Madrid [Spain] on October 28. Spain’s transport minister says the moving train had been mistakenly authorized to proceed past a red signal following a computer communications failure; an investigation is underway. It is Spain’s second major rail disaster this year, after a January crash on the same line killed 46 people, though officials say the causes appear unrelated (Reuters)
Swiss voters will decide on November 29 whether to ban the sale of noisy fireworks nationwide to reduce distress to animal-people, pollution, injuries and fire risks. Quieter fireworks would remain permitted, and Swiss states could grant exemptions for major celebrations (euronews)
The United States and dozens of other countries warn that Sudan faces a growing risk of famine and urge its army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces to remove barriers to humanitarian aid and protect aid workers and civilian infrastructure. They also call for increased international funding as civil war and drought worsen hunger. The conflict, which began in April 2023, has displaced more than 14 million people (Reuters)
The Democratic Republic of the Congo’s Ebola outbreak reached 10,060 confirmed cases and 4,887 deaths as of October 27, making it the country’s largest and deadliest Ebola outbreak. Caused by the rare Bundibugyo strain, it has spread to Kenya and Nigeria. The WHO [World Health Organization] declared Uganda Ebola-free in August (Channel News Asia)
Spain’s Agency for Medicines and Medical Devices warns that minoxidil, a common hair-growth treatment, can fatally poison cat- and dog-people, with cat-folk especially vulnerable. Caregivers should wash hands after application, cover treated skin where possible, keep pet-citizens away from treated areas and contaminated bedding and clothing, store medication securely, and seek veterinary help immediately after suspected exposure, even without symptoms (EuroWeekly News)

Vegan kebabs scored 81–86%, burger patties 57–58% and nuggets 61%, versus 39, 21 and 43%, respectively, for the chicken-folk meat counterparts (AgroSpectrum)
Authorities in Palangka Raya, on Indonesia’s Borneo island, have deployed a bus equipped with oxygen tanks and medical staff to help residents struggling to breathe amid severe forest fire haze. The fires, intensified by the El Niño weather pattern’s heat, are Indonesia’s worst in more than a decade and have been linked to about 350,000 cases of respiratory illness from August through October 25 (Reuters)

Climate change is accelerating glacier loss in Colorado [US], with record-low snowfall and extreme heat shrinking ice rapidly, threatening future water supplies and increasing drought risks. Portugal’s Corvo Island in the Azores switches off its public lighting for five nights each autumn to help young Cory’s shearwater-people make their first flight from their nests to the ocean. They use the stars to navigate at night, but artificial lights can disorient them, causing them to crash into village streets. Volunteers also search for stranded young shearwater-folk, sheltering them in cardboard boxes overnight to recover before releasing them from a cliff near the ocean the next day (The Guardian)
EU [European Union] climate chief Wopke Hoekstra warns that Europe must prepare for a world with 3 degrees Celsius of global warming by 2100, alongside continued efforts to cut emissions. Inspiring quote of the day: “I am nothing; GOD is all. I cannot walk before GOD as I should for one hour, unless GOD keep the life He has given me.” – Reverend Andrew Murray South African Pastor and Writer (The Master’s Indwelling)
Previously in Parts 1 and 2 of this three-part series, Kyle Rust recounted two visions during open-heart surgery: a reunion with his late grandparents in what he believed was Heaven, followed by a desert mountaintop where he believes he stood beside GOD. After waking in the recovery room, Kyle struggled with having wanted to remain in Heaven. The experience had brought him profound peace, but understanding it after his return proved difficult. During the first months after surgery, Kyle was so focused on his physical recovery that he barely thought about the visions. Doctors told him how serious his heart condition had been and how fortunate he was that the testing, specialist appointments, and surgery had all come together in time.
About eight months after surgery, Kyle began struggling with depression and survivor’s guilt as the emotional impact of his experience hit him. He also describes struggling with anxiety and turning to heavy drinking. Kyle questioned why events had aligned to save his life and why he had experienced the visions. He would sit in his living room with his dog and cry, not knowing how to handle it. One night, he ended up in the hospital after an altercation at a bar, and he told his parents they should have left him in a ditch to die. That moment made him realize he needed help. With a therapist, Kyle came to see how the experience had changed him. Material possessions became much less important to him. Although he still does not know for certain why he saw people in jumpsuits in the desert, he and his therapist developed an interpretation: the second vision represented the social norm, a line of people walking the path they are told to walk. He has stepped out of that line.
He left corporate sales to become a teacher because he wanted to make a difference in his community. He describes wanting to be a lighthouse for others, shining as an example rather than pulling them toward his own way of thinking. Through therapy, he also began to understand his distress as a process of mourning who he had been before surgery.
I was dealing with the death of my prior self and the rebirth of my new self. Kyle’s experience also changed how he wants to live the rest of his life. I don’t want to be standing back on that same mountaintop, being shown the same vision, basically being told that I didn’t accomplish what GOD gave me a second chance for. When his life eventually ends, he hopes to return to his grandparents. I can go back with my grandparents into their living room and sit there and relax. I want to be able to relax.
Kyle says the experience defined his life. It took him about three years to feel ready to share his story publicly. He hopes sharing it will help others who are struggling, especially young men who feel they must carry their burdens alone. For him, seeking help became essential to understanding what he had experienced and finding a way forward.
It took so much effort and work, but it was so worth it in the long run because, like I said, I have never felt better. I’ve never been more mentally clear. I’ve never been more spiritually clear. I’ve never been more physically clear in my life than I am right now in my life. (Kyle Rust YouTube channel - Thank you)
