All Greek government agencies will halt the procurement of plastic cutlery, plates, straws, and drink stirrers; styrofoam drink and food containers and their lids; and all items made of non-biodegradable plastic. The ruling was approved by the Greek parliament in October 2020 and will be fully put into effect in July 2021.

His Excellency Dr. Konstantinos Aravossis, Greece’s Natural Environment and Waters Secretary General, stated that this new ruling “is the first significant step toward ending the use of disposable plastics in Greece.”

Thank you, Greece, for taking this initiative on a serious issue. May we all soon enjoy a pristine natural environment as we practice our love and wisdom in how we treat our Earthly home.
