The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Korea has donated US$1 million to the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) to assist with humanitarian work in Yemen. This contribution comes at a very crucial time as five million people in the nation are at the brink of famine and as a result of the conflict in Ukraine, food prices have risen. For 2022, the global pledges to assist the country have reached only US$1.3 billion, which represents less than one third of the UN’s goal. Earlier this year, Korea confirmed a donation of US$20 million to help Yemen. Korea is a laureate of three Shining World Leadership Awards for Compassion and Shining World Leadership Awards for Protection and Peace. Record heat waves endanger millions of lives in India.
The India Meteorological Department announced that March of this year was the country’s hottest in 122 years, while various states registered record temperatures of up to 46.8 degrees Celsius in April 2022. In May, the capital Delhi witnessed a temperature of 49.2 degrees Celsius. As a scorched northern wheat crop threatens this year’s harvest, a rise in electricity usage has caused daily power outages, and hundreds of millions of people are at risk of heatstroke. In particular, the underprivileged and outdoor workers are most disproportionately affected. Dr. Roxy Mathew Koll, a climate scientist at the Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology, said that global warming is the “root cause” of the surge in heatwaves. Compassion towards others is definitely the way to go! I’d like to share a tasty recipe with you! Don’t know what to do with your leftover potato peelings? Just try this simple crispy potato skins recipe using only potato peels and seasoning! Start by pre-heating your oven to 200 degrees Celsius. Then, peel your potatoes using a peeler instead of a knife, as the skin will be too thick using the latter. Next, set the peels onto a baking tray. Drizzle 1-2 teaspoons (5 milliliters) of oil on them and then sprinkle on salt, pepper and any other seasonings you may want such as paprika, cumin or chili powder. Use your hands to combine everything together until there is an even coating of oil and seasonings on the peelings. Make sure all the peelings are lying flat and place the baking tray into the oven for approximately 8-10 minutes or until the potato skins turn slightly brown and crunchy. Try this recipe with other vegetable peelings such as parsnip and carrots. If the vegetable peels are properly wrapped and kept in the fridge for up to three days, they can be used. Aptly called Hydropanels, the solar units power a fan that pulls in air which moves through a sponge-like material that captures water vapor. Remains of ancient Phoenician burial ground found in Spain.
Recently, archaeologists in the town of Osuna, on the Iberian Peninsula of Spain, uncovered a burial ground from the Phoenicians estimated to be from the fourth or fifth century BC. Revealed among ancient Roman ruins, the necropolis was extremely well preserved and included eight burial vaults, as well as staircases and more. The find was unexpected as usually such sites would be located near the coast, and it is thought that the area was established for people of a high ranking within society due to the elaborate nature of the construction. Brave Ukrainian woman stays in war zone to care for hundreds of animal-people.
When retired 77-year-young mathematics professor, Asya Serpinska, heard the Russians had invaded, she knew she had to get to her animal-persons shelter. She said, “My people were here, my dogs were here.” Though under attack by Russian forces, Mrs. Serpinska and her staff kept the facility in the town of Hostomel operating, to look after 700 dog- and 100 cat-people. For one month the invasion continued, and during this time a dog-person was shot by the Russians, and others lost their lives due to shrapnel and bombs exploding. Compassionate Mrs. Serpinska also rescued peacock- and turtle-people from an abandoned zoo and came every day, amidst shelling, to feed a lion-person left behind in a locked cage. Our heartfelt applause, Asya Serpinska and staff, for your noble actions. Master saved me from the juncture of life-and-death. I was nearly unconscious, totally pale, without any physical strength, but still trying to pray to Master and recite the Holy Names. The night when I was finally transferred back to the general hospital ward, I had an inner vision of a very gorgeous dress. I lifted it up, and it felt very heavy. I said that this was not what I wanted and put it back. Then my soul went to another place where there was someone teaching beings to meditate. I sat down and felt I couldn’t fly again. I only saw the stone statue of a sphinx. The next day, my soul went out again, and I saw a circle of Light. I entered and sat inside, reciting the Holy Names and then I could fly again. Then I flew into a jungle where I saw people from ancient times.
Another time, Master took my soul up for treatment, and we were spinning in the air. Master massaged me in such an incredible way that no one in the world could compare, warming up my whole body. While She was telling me that there are other kinds of exercises, someone showed up, and She put me back into my human body, while the warm feeling still lingered. The next day, my soul went to a room where Master gave me Her clothes, which I took. I heard some people reciting a sutra, and someone told me it was very powerful. I ignored it and walked to the circle of Light to meditate. I flew to a valley where there were ugly beings, both male and female, indulging in all kinds of sensory pleasures. I said that I didn’t want that, I wanted to get away from these feelings. Master then took me to a sea with icebergs to meditate. With no hesitation at all, I jumped down and meditated there with Master, feeling full of bliss in my heart. Master showed me the cracks in the iceberg, which symbolizes the imminent crisis of the world. How much I wish that the world will turn vegan soon to save themselves!
