The donation is to help rebuild schools and infrastructure destroyed by the war, with US$2 million going to Kharkiv, the second-largest city in Ukraine, while the local governments in the cities of Chernihiv, Mykolaiv, Sumy, and Zaporizhzhia will each receive US$500,000. Mayor Terekhov expressed his gratitude, saying the monetary assistance will help Ukrainian students resume their schooling, and Taiwan’s (Formosa’s) political support will strengthen Ukraine’s resolve to safeguard the nation’s democratic freedom. Distressingly, tankers have to bring potable water to serve hundreds of rural communities located in Chile’s central and northern areas. In April 2022, the President of Chile, His Excellency Gabriel Boric, signed a law to revise the nation’s water laws to designate the resource as a public good for human use and declare global warming a danger to the country’s water supply. Start by grating the soap with a grater or food processor until it’s fine. Combine the grated soap, washing soda, baking soda, and borax powder into a big bowl and mix thoroughly with a spoon. Store the mixture in a mason jar and put the lid on. You will only need to use 1 tablespoon (14 grams) of the mixture for small or medium loads and 2 tablespoons (28 grams) for large loads or significantly soiled clothes. Soften your garments without using fabric softeners – as these can have some of the same negative health effects as store-bought laundry detergents – by adding in a cup (235 milliliters) of white vinegar to the rinse cycle. Following more than a decade of cooperation between US national laboratories, academia and private industry, engineers at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory in Tennessee have created the quickest supercomputer ever, named Frontier. The machine achieved 1.1 exaflops of performance or the equivalent of over 1 million trillion calculations every second. If every human on Earth were to perform one calculation each second, it would take them more than four years to achieve this many computations. The supercomputer will now be used to help solve some of the world’s largest scientific challenges. The Mayor of London, the Right Honourable Sadiq Khan, has announced that the Warmer Homes Programme will provide £43 million as grants to help low-income residents to upgrade their cold or poorly insulated dwellings. The initiative will deliver subsidies of between £5,000 and £25,000 for up to 45,000 households. The grant can be used for heat pump installation, enhancement of home insulation, improvements or repairs to the heating system, draught-proofing, or solar energy installation. Ten-year-old Seema Kumari from Bihar, India, sadly lost a leg in a road accident two years ago but was determined to continue her schooling. The fourth-grader managed to travel the one-kilometer distance to school each day hopping on one leg with a schoolbag on her back. Her heroic efforts were captured in a video that was widely viewed on social media. Seema’s keen determination was so touching that the district magistrate provided her with a tricycle while the state education department arranged a prosthetic leg for her. Divers free humpback whale-person stranded by trawl net in Spain.
A 12-meter-long humpback whale-individual trapped in an illegal fishing net has been rescued by kindhearted Spanish divers off the Balearic Islands of Mallorca. She was so entangled in the net that she was unable to open her mouth. After an unsuccessful rescue attempt from a boat, four divers from the nearby Albatros and Skualo diving centers joined the quest to save the trapped one. She recognized them as rescuers and let them do their work. Within 45 minutes, the cetacean-lady was freed from the net and left with “a little thank you sign” after recovering for a while. Kudos, divers from Albatros and Skualo diving centers and all others involved, on your fantastic rescue mission.
