Today it is an honor to share selections from Sections 34 – 47 of the book “The Diatessaron” of Tatian, translated and edited by Reverend Samuel Hemphill, which focuses on the teachings and parables of Lord Jesus on having faith and gratitude as well as the miracles He performed.

34. FOXES HAVE HOLES.

“[A scribe states:] I will come and follow Thee. [Lord Jesus replies:] Foxes have their dens; and the Son of Man has no place where He may lay his head.”

35. STILLING THE TEMPEST.

“He rebuked the wind, and it ceased.”

37. JAIRUS’ DAUGHTER AND THE SICK WOMAN.

“Fearing and trembling behind Lord Jesus, she touched the border of His garment. And she knew in herself that she had been cured from her torments. Who touched me? Who touched my clothes? The crowds of people surround and press Thee, and say Thou, Who came near to me? I know that someone has touched me: I know that great power has gone out of me. (When she saw that this also had not been hidden from Him.) [Lord Jesus then states:] Go in peace, thy faith has made thee whole. Believe firmly, and thy daughter shall live. And He commanded that they should give her something to eat.”

39. THE MISSION OF THE TWELVE.

“[…] Verily I say to you, ye shall not be able to finish these cities until I shall have come to you. The things which I speak to you in darkness, speak ye in the light; what ye hear in the ear, proclaim over the housetops. Fear not them who slay the body, but are not able to slay the soul. […] [He who wishes to find his life shall lose it, he who loses his life for my sake shall find it.] [He who loves not me more than his own life.] He who receives you receives me.” […]

47. MISSION OF THE SEVENTY. JESUS UPBRAIDS THE UNBELEIVING CITIES. THE SEVENTY RETURN. JESUS REJOICES AND INVITES THE WEARY AND HEAVY LADEN.

“He sent them two by two according to His own pattern. Freely ye have received, freely give. I beheld Satan that he fell like lightning from Heaven. Behold, I have given you the power of treading on serpents and scorpions, and all the power of the enemy. I give thee Thanks, heavenly Father, because Thou has hidden these things from the wise and prudent, and has revealed them to the little ones. No one knows the Father but the Son, and no one knows the Son but the Father. Come unto me, ye that labor and are heavy laden, and I will refresh you.”
