My cycling fellows and I just finished our sprint training session and are getting ready for a refreshing fruit breakfast. This reminded me of a handy bicycle chain maintenance tip. Before tossing out your old toothbrushes, consider giving them a second life. With just two toothbrushes and a little duct tape, you can create a simple tool that makes cleaning your bicycle chain quicker and easier. Place the two toothbrushes together so the bristles face each other and slightly interlock. Once they’re aligned, wrap duct tape tightly around the handles near the base of the bristles to hold them securely in place. Your homemade bike chain cleaner is now ready to use. Just turn your bicycle upside down and gently pull the toothbrush bristles apart and position them around the chain. Then hold the brushes firmly in place with one hand while slowly rotating the pedal with the other hand. As the chain moves through the bristles, dirt and grease are scrubbed away from both sides at once, making the cleaning process faster and more effective. Avoid rinsing the chain with water, as leftover moisture can contribute to rust if the chain isn’t dried properly.
Now it’s time for some fun exercises on the laughter trampoline with the joke of the day, called, “The Search Is Over.”
Scott was searching frantically around the house when his wife, Elise, walked in.
“What are you looking for?”
“My keys. I put them down so I could find my glasses.”
“Your glasses are on your head.”
“Great. Now I just need to remember where I put my keys.”
“They’re in your other hand.”
